چکیده

In this paper we study some aspects of weighted flow time. We first show that the online algorithm Highest Density First is an O(1)-speed O(1)-approximation algorithm for P |ri ,pmtn| ∑ wiFi . We then consider a related Deadline Scheduling Problem that involves minimizing the weight of the jobs unfinished by some unknown deadline D on a uniprocessor. We show that any c-competitive online algorithm for weighted flow time must also be c-competitive for deadline scheduling. We then give an O(1)-competitive algorithm for deadline scheduling.  2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A New ILP Model for Identical Parallel-Machine Scheduling with Family Setup Times Minimizing the Total Weighted Flow Time by a Genetic Algorithm

This paper presents a novel, integer-linear programming (ILP) model for an identical parallel-machine scheduling problem with family setup times that minimizes the total weighted flow time (TWFT). Some researchers have addressed parallel-machine scheduling problems in the literature over the last three decades. However, the existing studies have been limited to the research of independent jobs,...

Fuzzy Programming for Parallel Machines Scheduling: Minimizing Weighted Tardiness/Earliness and Flow Time through Genetic Algorithm

Appropriate scheduling and sequencing of tasks on machines is one of the basic and significant problems that a shop or a factory manager encounters; this is why in recent decades extensive studies have been done on scheduling issues. One type of scheduling problems is just-in-time (JIT) scheduling and in this area, motivated by JIT manufacturing, this study investigates a mathematical model for...

Worst-Case Performance Guarantees of Scheduling Algorithms Maximizing Weighted Throughput in Energy-Harvesting Networks

Energy harvesting has recently emerged as a technique to enable longer operating time of sensor networks. However, due to harvesting energy’s not-completely-predictable stochastic nature, some packets may still fail to be transmitted due to insufficient energy supply. Also, packets in sensor networks are usually associated with sensitive time-critical information. Based on these observations, w...

Mixed Criteria Packet Scheduling

Packet scheduling in networks with quality of service constraints has been extensively studied as a single criterion scheduling problem. The assumption underlying single criterion packet scheduling is that the value of all packets can be normalized to a single scale, even in cases when packets have different requirements. We demonstrate that this approach can lead to inefficient utilization of ...

A Hybrid Approach for Fuzzy Just-In-Time Flow Shop Scheduling with Limited Buffers and Deteriorating Jobs

This paper investigates the problem of just-in-time permutation flow shop scheduling with limited buffers and linear job deterioration in an uncertain environment. The fuzzy set theory is applied to describe this situation. A novel mixed-integer nonlinear program is presented to minimize the weighted sum of fuzzy earliness and tardiness penalties. Due to the computational complexities, the prop...
